We've subscribed to Adelphia's PowerLink cable modem service ever since it became available in our area around 8 months ago. Early on we had problems with the connection occasionally, but Adelphia has always been quick to send out technical support people. A cable modem is so much better than a dial-up service (much faster, always on) -- it's hard to imagine ever going back. Of course, we would be delighted if being part of the University community meant that we could get a discount, but we'll stick with Adelphia's service regardless of the decision made by UVM.
