Hello,
My name is Jillian Prentiss. This summer I traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico for a
spanish class. We volunteered at La Estancia Fraternidad, a hostel for the
relatives of sick people who come from surronding pueblos to the public
hospital. La Estancia offers these families a place to sleep, and three meals a
day for under $1 U.S. Before La Estancia, these people were sleeping in the
street and every year La Estancia goes further into debt to keep them off the
street.
As a fundraiser, my class decided to buy goods from the local markets:
bookmarks, scarves, purses etc. to bring back and sell. I will be in front ofthe library (or maybee by the catamount statue in front of the bookstore) from
11:00-12:10 and 1:25 to 3:00 on Monday, as well as from 2:00 to 4:00 on
Tuesday.
All these goods are Fair trade, and this would be an excellent and friendly way
to get some of your holiday shopping done. I hope to see you there!
