A varied and wonderful fall-out of backyard birds in Burlington this morning was highlighted by what at first appeared to be a hawk--huge reddish flash of wings among the robins, juncos, etc. Lo and behold it was a Rhode Island red rooster! Soon joined by a couple of hens. Ahh-city living in Vermont. Getting along together were at least 8 cardinals: 4 males, 3 females and at least one juvenile, feeding along with 15 or so robins, 2 downy woodpeckers,a w-b nuthatch and a N.flicker all in the same crabapple tree;, chickadees, house finches (about 12),blue jay and juncos. Don't know what became of the fowl; when last seen they were foraging under the blue spruce. Nancy Goodrich, Burlington
