I have a researcher that needs to buy some TNT for a calibration standard. Very small quantities, a few grams at most. Understanding that TNT is one of the most stable of high explosives and can be stored over long periods of time. It is relatively insensitive to blows or friction. It is non-hygroscopic and does not form sensitive compounds with metals, but it is readily acted upon by alkalis to form unstable compounds that are very sensitive to heat and impact. Even though it's stable and a very small quantity does anyone have any insight or suggestions regarding storage, security, inventory tracking?? Off hand I'd suggest a locked flammables cabinet, stored away from alkalis, accessed by authorized individuals, with careful inventory records and tracking. Anything else? Any licenses or reporting requirements? EPA or Homeland Security or otherwise? Thanks, Chris Christopher E.
