This is not from a dictionary, but the "rule of thumb" I have heard is that if each of the two words can stand alone, the - is not necessary. Since "non" is not (or seems to me not to be) a stand-alone kinda word, I would go for the non-stenotic version.

OK Flownetters,    Is it spelled:

A)      non stenotic
B)      non-stenotic
C)      nonstenotic

and tell me where you found it in a dictionary..............!! (I am a proof kinda gal)

One of my docs told us today that we are spelling it wrong and I cant find it in a dictionary, only in titles of articles, but its spelled all different ways.
