I recall the conversation, in which (upon review) there was speculation it had to do with language barriers.  However, the poor fellow who was killed by the falling pipe was Taiwanese, spoke English and Cantonese, and was listed as "packer," not "Asian packer."
 
Guess I'm still missing the definitive rationale for calling out "Hispanic."
