Chris,
VPP is not a solely a safety program. Successfully addressing safety
concerns involves much more than compliance with regulations and legislation.
Rather, VPP is a cooperative effort among management, labor, and
government. VPP means that all of the people in an organization, including
management and labor, are committed to making all of the organizational systems
related to the safety program work. This is achieved by integrating a
comprehensive safety program into the total management system.
The first two elements critical to achieving VPP status are management
commitment and employee involvement. These criteria apply to all types of
industries, employers, and operations.
This is not an abstract approach. Establishing an organizational climate
of trust and cooperation to achieve mutual goals is the first step when
considering VPP status. Oftentimes this involves changing the way people
relate to each other since different persons in a company frequently have
different perceptions. Therefore, identifying these perceptual differences is
critical.
We offer a validated perception survey, based on scientific research,
which identifies these perceptual differences. It can scientifically and
statistically quantify management commitment and employee involvement. The
basis for this program derives from my PhD dissertation “The Effect of
Corporate Culture on Injury and Illness Rates within the Organization,” a
nationwide scientific research study.
If this is of interest to you, we would be able to assist.

We are working on a procedure for annual Safety and Health Management
System
Audits to meet OSHA VPP requirements. Would anyone have a written
policy/procedure for these audits that would be willing to share so that we
could benchmark?
Also, we are looking for basic rewards programs for "exemplary safety and
health performance" not related to injury/illness/incident reporting.
Thanks,
Chris
