I volunteer for a non profit organization that through the summer months runs weekly over night camping programs. The camp is located in a part of Connecticut that has had summer thunderstorms on somewhat of a regular basis. The organization is looking at the possibility of purchasing some sort of lightning detection/lightning prediction and warning system for the camp. I am looking to see if any of the "SAFETY" readers have any experience with either fixed or hand held lightning detection systems. The sales literature for such systems indicate that they are often used to make decisions regarding outside sporting events or outside utility work. Some are no larger than a small pager and supposedly give adequate warning. Others are fixed and tie in with PCs. At the present time the camp monitors weather Doppler radar and information from the National Weather Service. The camp is located where there is real good Doppler coverage. If any one has experience with such detection/prediction systems, please let me know. Thanks John "Jack" Braddock --- This e-mail is from the [log in to unmask] list.
