When I was with CPSC and we saw something like this on a major program
like ABC Good Morning America, you can bet some of us would start
looking at it right away, even if an investigation had not yet been
formally opened. CPSC has a system of state and local govt "deputies"
that will notify them in case they didn't see it. CPSC will likely be
interested in the lab and incident reports.
Some people are very skin or respiratory sensitive to formaldehyde. So
far, I haven't heard of any serious injuries, but things like this tend
to be magnets for lawsuits.
