She is developing a matrix and wants to include specific people and specific roles in the EDM program. I found some information (via Google) on enterprise data management, but nothing that listed specific roles (such as data stewardship manager). The Data Governance Institute website had some helpful information, but not exactly what the patron is looking for. As mentioned below the PubMed search strategies are key to this - not only
the strategy for 'patient safety' but the various strategies for "limiting
type of article to systematic reviews, review, meta-analysis, clinical
trial, randomized controlled trial ... ".

As has been noted below, a combination of MeSH terms and free-text terms is
required for comprehensive searching, and is Cochrane policy, as outlined in
The Cochrane Handbook. [...]

First, we seem to have lost sight of the fact that systematic reviews and
metaanalyses are primarily designed to elicit comparative efficacy of
specific interventions and they will be indexed as such.
Try to search on a "grab bag" term, especially with respect to safety and
you will be disappointed with the results.
The concept of "patient safety" as demonstrated in the search strategy
is, of nature and necessity, more limited than that of the human
interpreter hand searching a journal who has a more flexible set of
inclusion criteria in mind.

Agreed. The article actually came out of Spain, so possibly PubMed is what
they have to rely on. Presumably English is not the authors' first
language (some minor awkwardness in the article here and there also
suggests that), so that complicates matters if they're going to search only
English-language literature. What kills me, though, is this study came out
of Cochrane's Iberoamerican center in Barcelona. I kind of expect better
out of Cochrane. I don't know what librarian training might be in Spain -
the researcher listed as the searcher has a B.Sc. degree - would that be
the norm [...]

Sorry for duplication my mail account hasn't notified me that my original request went through; so I am attempting to post it again.

Different day; different question.

My patron's original request had this wording: my topic is missing medications. ...how to decrease missing medications in a hospital setting.

I initially thought patron meant a) patient's not taking meds so the keywords might have been medication adherance or b) meds were taken from the unit - so maybe drug diversion; theft; loss; etc. [...]

Mandell is one of the important exceptions.

I am having my rep investigate Expert Consult. Right now it is only
available for personal purchases but she is looking into maybe making an
exception. We cannot possibly afford Clinical Key and need to patch MD
Consult together. The books and journals were the things we used. Not
the other stuff. Some of the content in Clinical Key is nice but it is
mostly overkill for us. [...]

Hi,
We are AccessMedicine subscribers and determined that 21 of the 50 book titles in MDConsult have alternatives in that collection. Also, with few exceptions, all of the post-2008 MDC books are available a la carte from either EBSCO or R2, and in some cases both.

I would think the difference is in the application (one swipe of a nail polish versus layers of powder and polish and whatnot) and the removal (a few swipes of a nail polish remover versus whatever it takes to remove the other stuff, gel included). Our policy just says no "artificial fingernails, overlays, or extenders" - there are no definitions. Nail polish is addressed separately. Not trying to be snarky, but does one really need to define "artificial"? If it's not your real fingernail, it's an artificial one. Artificial = not real (fake).

Someone mentioned Journals Consult for the journals you get the most use
out of on MDConsult and either EBSCO, StatRef, or R2 for ebooks. As far as
the other stuff goes, like the clinics, the image bank, patient
information, etc, I've yet to find a good alternative to that.

Yesterday our state medical library consortium had our Elsevier representative come and talk to us about Clinical Key. There were several in the room that either have Clinical Key or are in the process of obtaining it.

The question of cost came up. There were a number of comments (similar to what you have seen posted on this list) about the cost difference between MDConsult and Clinical Key. One of my colleagues stated that in her opinion the two products are quite different. Clinical Key is not so much a replacement for MDConsult as it is a new and much, [...]

I've been closely monitoring the discussions, also. We are a 25-bed
critical access hospital and have licensed MDConsult for several years.
We currently have a trial to Clinical Key. It is way too large a
product for our consideration, I believe.

Can we continue/start a discussion of options that would give us what we
need, and truly do what is right for our institutions? I don't think I
could sleep at night, if I convinced our organization that we needed to
have Clinical Key. [...]
