The Sociey of General Internal Medicine has just sent a letter to the
membership regarding the SGIM Council Action on UpToDate's new pricing.
The
letter outlines the new pricing structure and notes that the SGIM was not
informed by UpToDate of the change.  I'll quote the next part.  "Please
be
assured that the Council immediately began working with UpToDate to develop
an approach to the issue of reasonable costs that would enable institutions
to provide greater access to UpToDate for teaching purposes.  Council's
Executive Committee.....met with UpToDate's President, Piet Blyendaal....
Mr. Blyendaal apologized for the way in which the pricing was changed
without notification or discussion with SGIM.  Recognizing the needs of
teaching institutions, he also expressed UpToDate's willingness to revisit
the pricing structure."  The letter is signed by Seth Landefeld, President

I am circulating the letter to physicians who use UpToDate and suggesting
they contact their professional organizations to contact UpToDate.
