This is a great opportunity to work with the Women's Center and the
community to end sexual violence. - Tim
Are you interested in being part of social change on UVM's campus? The
Paradigm Project, part of a Department of Justice funded educational
initiative through the Women's Rape Crisis Center and the UVM Women's
Center, is seeking students who are interested in becoming peer educators
for the spring and fall semesters of 2004. The project seeks to educate
students on sexual violence, domestic violence and stalking issues, while
engaging students in an active discussion about masculinity, femininity,
and social influences. These prospective peer educators would not need any
prior experience in a peer education role, nor would they necessarily need
an extensive knowledge about the issues of sexual violence, relationship
violence, and stalking. What is most important is that these students have
a desire to enact social change, to challenge the social norms surrounding
these issues, and to educate students about the social construction of
masculinity and femininity. Screening for the peer educator positions is
beginning now, and training will begin on January 31st. Peer educators
will also receive a stipend for both their training and for the educational
sessions that they facilitate.
If you have an interest in being a peer educator, or know of someone who
might have an interest, please contact me via the information listed below.
There will also be an informational session for interested students on
January 27th at 7pm in the Women’s Center.
Thank you for your time.
