Most of this appears to come from Iris Combe's Herding Dogs book, with some
also from Col. David Hancock's "Old Working Dogs."
But I'm stumped as to what was meant by a "Russian Collie"! Maybe some
collie-looking herding dog of Russian origin -- but what was it and how did
it get to Australia? What little I've found about Russian herding dogs
indicates spitz-type farm dogs in the north and livestock guardians in the
south. In either case some individuals might have looked collie-like.
Collie was more a generic term in the old days like "hound" or "spaniel".
