Had a call last night from someone who has
been volunteering at the Syracuse SPCA.
concerned about a blue merle smooth coated dog
that she says could be a collie cross. She said
the dog is female, about 60
lbs but slightly overweight, and extremely
responsive as well as affectionate to adult
humans, at least adult human females. Not thought
to be good with small children, and is showing dog
aggressive behavior in the shelter environment.
Don't know about how the dog is with other
Ann is a professional trainer (operant
conditioning/clicker). So she knows a lot about
dogs in general and training and I think when she
says a dog is extremely responsive she means
especially trainable and smart and willing.
Due to shape of head and some other things she
thinks this girl is
a collie cross. Actually, she said it looks like a
Collie X Basenji, (said it has tail like a
Basenji) but she is very cautious about
identifying breeds in mixes/crosses because it is
speculative. Described the color as mostly blue
merle, just a bit of tan on muzzle and maybe
Ann really likes this dog but can't take her in
for fostering. Unfortunately, neither can I.
If you are interested in this dog, email me today
(my email will be down tomorrow through Monday) or
phone me at 315-687-9422 and I will give you Ann's
number. You could also phone the shelter in
Syracuse (Molloy Rd.) but Ann didn't give me the
dog's identification so I don't know how to to
specify. And she said she'd like to tell more
about this dog to anyone who might be interested.
