Had a call last night from someone who has
been volunteering at the Syracuse SPCA.
Ann is
concerned about a blue merle smooth coated dog
that she says could be a collie cross. She said
the dog is female, about 60
lbs but slightly overweight, and extremely
responsive as well as affectionate to adult
humans, at least adult human females. Not thought
to be good with small children, and is showing dog
aggressive behavior in the shelter environment.
Don't know about how the dog is with other
animals.

Ann is a professional trainer (operant
conditioning/clicker). So she knows a lot about
dogs in general and training and I think when she
says a dog is extremely responsive she means
especially trainable and smart and willing.

Due to shape of head and some other things she
thinks this girl is
a collie cross. Actually, she said it looks like a
Collie X Basenji, (said it has tail like a
Basenji) but she is very cautious about
identifying breeds in mixes/crosses because it is
so
speculative. Described the color as mostly blue
merle, just a bit of tan on muzzle and maybe
elsewhere.

Ann really likes this dog but can't take her in
even
for fostering. Unfortunately, neither can I.
