Gina, thanks for your input. I've decided to do the DNA test on my dog, who may be a noncarrier. I don't like not knowing! And I like even less the idea of purposely breeding to an affected dog enough times to produce enough puppies to "prove" my dog, and even then not knowing for sure. I'm going to do the online and 20/20 clinic discount, so it will cost $135. which is way less than I paid for the OFAs.
Do you think the breeder ought to be responsible for progeny testing, or should that fall on the new puppy owners? What about a puppy contract with a clause that the breeder pays a portion of the costs for OFA, thyroid, and CEA testing, or makes it a condition of even being able to buy the pup in the first place?
