40 years ago I dragged my dad out to a sheep ranch in northern Ca. to buy
me an australian Shepherd puppy for 35 bucks.

The dogs of my youth were unpapered "farm collies" The first
remembered one was a black and white that later I assummed to be a border
collie (His parents worked on a farm with over 300 sheep, goats, and
poultry), yet he was a lot steadier than most border collies and my older
cousin took him hunting.
Then we also had one that was a smaller version of the ES I have today.
Our first ES and dog with papers (UKC) was purchased 40 some years ago
for the magnificant sum of $15.00 after our dog was stolen.
