Have you thought of checking with the specific breed rescues?  They have
internet sites, and may just have a dog near you that needs a home.  Or
could ship to you.  I know there are dogs out there, like you said, that are
looking for a forever home, and your heart is big enough to give them that.
Or go to Petfinder and see what's available within the parameters that you
can work in.
