I guess I'll need to find a "ticked off" gadget. I tried the soap method last night - we came home from 5 days in Canada and found Duff with ticks beneath/beside both his eyes, really didn't want to use needle-nosed pliers (DH's usual method) so close to his eyes. Alas, the soap didn't work - I then had to spend some time washing it off so it didn't get into his eyes and burn - and we've gotten him used to being handled to the extent that we used the pliers and got the ticks out, but still . .

I am so fortunate to be married to an expert tick picking husband who prides himself on daily tick checks of the dogs and pulls them deftly out with his fingers. He used to live in an extreme tick brush area and needed to remove hundreds of ticks from his dog daily. (he does wash his hands immediately after.) The things creep me out. But he takes it as all in stride.
