sorry I've been so long in getting back to this thread when I was the
one who brought it up. Sometimes life just gets so far ahead of me.
Still, I think this is so important to the long term health of the
type of dogs we love that I didn't want to abandon it.
Yeah, somewhere in teh $400 range is pretty typical for PennHIP. OFA
is usually cheaper, some places you can do that for under $200. The
place where I get my dogs done throws the OFA in for free since they
already have the dog under anesthesia and positioned on the xray
table. Other vets have offered a "deal" and some charge the full
amount for both even if they do then at the same time which seems
wrong to me, personally.
PennHIP is supposedly a more accurate predictor of inheritability and
maybe it is, my personal jury is out on that one. I think OFA is
certainly good enough for those who don't want to spend the extra $$$.
Plus OFA is more easily available. Nearly every Vet can do the OFA
xrays.
