I got a really nice update not long ago on one of my first fosters from 2000. Nicky was a black and tan ES-type dog who was found stray in Ohio. The shelter had him labeled as a Gordon setter/collie mix, but someone posted him on the list and on NESR.
My BF and I drove from Maryland to Ohio to get him, and brought home one of the happiest, sweetest, most loving dogs I've ever met. He would literally hug people, wrapping his legs around your waist and laying his head on your stomach.
Nicky was also completely blind from cataracts - at the time I had Bonnie, my collie who had been born blind. Nothing more amazing to watch than two blind dogs playfully (and carefully) wrestling and gnawing on each others' faces.
Once, I was walking the two of them, my sister's Cavalier, and another foster (an elderly female collie), and we were approached by an aggressive dog. Nicky had been trailing behind, but when he heard the other one approaching he leaped out to the front and snarled, effectively keeping the other dog at bay. No one was going to mess with *his* girls!
His adopters spotted him on NESR's website - they lived in Colorado, but fell in love so quickly that they flew to Maryland to get him. He has to be in his mid to late teens now, and he's had his eyes removed (he had glaucoma in addition to the cataracts), but he's still a happy, loving little guy!
