Hi Dotty, and everyone...
We use a soft fish oil capsule that we buy at GNC nutrition centers,
which are a nationwide chain and also have on-line shopping. We just
drop in at a local storefront and buy many of our supplements there,
including the fish oil in capsules, and the coconut oil that I mentioned
before in another post, which comes in pint jars or quart jars. The
brand of Fish oil capsules is GNC house brand, labeled as "Triple
Strength Fish Oil 1500" in a bottle of 120 capsules. it has 1500mG of
fish oil with 900mG total Omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. I use a
kitchen scissors to nip off the end of the tiny football shaped capsule
and then squeeze the oil out into the dog food, then cut the soft
capsule into 2 or 3 parts and stirr that into the food too. That way he
can't leave a whole capsule in the bowl uneaten, and if there is any
residual in the empty cap, he get that too from the pieces. I also give
a smaller amount to the other dogs that have not had a stroke, by also
nipping the end off the cap and squeezing the oil into a piece of
bread. They all LOVE the flavor of this and are always eager with
wagging tails to get the fish oiled bread or dinner served with it
squeezed on top. TahTay gets a whole capsule every day, and the other 3
get about 1/3 of a capsule every other day.
You can buy high omega-3 fish oil in liquid form in a bottle from some
places, but since we humans also take it, getting in these soft caps
keep the concentrated fishy taste and smell inside you, instead of in
your mouth and breath. It might be cheaper to just buy the fish oil in
bulk liquid just for the dogs if you can find a place that sells it that
way...the dogs seem to REALLY love the concentrated aroma and to me it
does not matter that they have fishy breath for a short time after
Hope this helps...
