There's a picture of Jan Ziff's BC/Rough cross BlueJay on the farmcollie
pages (at: http://www.bcrescue.org/Images/BlueJay.gif). I personally think
Blue Jay is one of the most beautiful dogs in the world. He's sounds like a
nice dog, too.
He is very good looking, it was hard to tell from the picture, is he a b/w?
In the intervening years I've gone back to English Shepherds which
is what I had as a kid and loved so much. The ES, as a breed, is so close
to the dog I see in my minds eye and I personally thrash around the
crossbreed vs. purebred arguement a lot.
I grew up with ES's and my grandparents and great grandparents and Uncles
also used them on their Dairy farms. When we were children we had a dark
sable ES named Rusty close to the same color as Malones Rusty, who I think is
very handsome. I do not see this color that often anymore, it is one of my
favorite colors.
The sables we have now are much lighter and then there's the clear sable
thats not really sable, but I see more ES's this color. I know Marianne had
some darker colored sables and I think Karen C's Roux is a saddle back sable.
Linda R. and I were discussing colors recently, I had sent her some pictures,
one of a liver/brown and tan ES. All this color stuff is fascinating to me.
Also I have been trying to locate a book by Clarence C Little, The
inheritence coat colors of dogs, I've tried the library and alot of
bookstores, the one bookstore told me they would try to order it for me but
it may take a while, if they can even get a copy, price $24.00.
If anyone runs across it on the web in the mean time would you e-mail me?
Thanks,
Randi
