Hi Melissa! How did lambing go?

Until fairly recently (40s at least) the Collie standard still said just
"Color immaterial," which I suppose meant that technically any color
could be shown. But according to Denlinger, even before the 40s it was
well known that only a few colors could be expected to win. Stunning as
I find bi-black on Meg's Collie, I find it hard to imagine why this
color wouldn't have been winning in the ring. I wonder whether black and
white was selected against early on because it was too "common" as in
"working class" because it was a prevalent color of the working collie.
Just speculating. Shown in the 1906 _The Dog Book_ photos, Watson's
Nesta, a show Collie imported from England, was solid black.

Yes and she will be glad to know others are interested. I hope she will
join farmcollie but until then, I can pass along questions or can give
you her email.
