I have heard that black and white is a dominant color, and this
information will probably not help the sable question, but it may help the
My Aussie was born of a merled mother with blue eyes and was in the
minority of puppy colors. Most of her brothers and sisters were merle,
but she is black with tan-to-brown points (eyebrows & cheeks more brown,
and socks blending from more brown to more tan).
We bred this black & tan Aussie with a BC (typical black & white coloring
with the speckling on face & legs--strong white blaze on the face) and got
black-based puppies with no merles and all brown eyes. About half of the
puppies inherited the Aussie's tan points with this variation: On the
legs and some of the noses, the BC black speckles were replaced with brown

darkened over time and others had them dark from the getgo.

Aussie. The half with long tails had white tips on them and the others
had little stubs that required half or less to be docked. All of them had
wonderful temperments and the people who got free pups from the first
litter paid for pups from the second. (Supposedly there is quite a
following for the Aussie/BC cross and they are unofficially known as Texas
Just some info to throw on the color-discussion fire. Coalie may or may
not have another Texas Heeler litter in about 65 days for anyone in the
Arkansas/Oklahoma area who needs a good, smart, friendly,
minimal-restraint dog with solid herding instincts.
It also takes two to make up after a quarrel.
