Hi Jan, I'm not familiar with interceptor, but IF it is a heartworm
preventative like Heartguard (ivermectin) it is only for the purpose of
PREVENTING (deadly) heartworm infestation. As such, it is just that, a
PREVENTATIVE only. It is anthelmintic drug (wormer) given in small quantity
for the purpose of PREVENTING heartworms ONLY. It will not TREAT parasites,
but only PREVENT your dog from picking up HEARTWORM ONLY. To treat for
TAPEWORMS SPECIFICALLY, you need to get medication from your VET. As I said,
I'm unfamiliar w/ interceptor & don't know the active ingredient, dose, or
purpose, but if it is a heartworm preventative, it will preform that one
purpose only-it will not cure heartworms if the dog has already become
infested, nor will it cure any other type of parasitic infestation. Most
over-the-counter wormers are effective primarily against roundworms and will
not touch tapeworms. Roundworms tend to produce digestive disturbances and
sometimes an accompanying cough but they do not often account for chronic
weight loss. If you want to treat tapeworms, you will have to get med from a
vet.
It's great you're starting Brandy on frontline. Ticks are not only nasty
little creatures, but they can carry Lyme disease as well.
Brandy sounds like he's happy in his new home with you. You are really
wonderful to give this older collie a new life! I'd love to hear about yoiur
other dog(s).
