Anybody familiar with beardies and how they work? Are they pretty much
limited in instinct to herding? We have a neighbor with a dog that the vet
labeled some kind of cross between a schnauzer and an Alaskan sled dog
breed. When I saw the dog at 10 months, it looked very much like a beardie
cross to me. Sure enough, the dog, now a little over a year old, is
starting to herd! He is helping with rounding up strays and does a decent
job on a few wethers of keeping them together. They would like very much to
train him to work on their small farm, but they have no idea what approach
to take. This dog is very excitable and rather hyper, although he is
calming down somewhat with age. Any suggestions?
