Hello all,

I was thinking recently that when I first found this
farm collie list I was starting a search for another
collie "just like Ranger". We looked at collies and
collie mixes all over the state of Oklahoma. Last
night as I looked at Ranger and Pord laying quietly
watching me fold clothes while Prissy paced the house
in her usual manner, I decided that Pord was about as
close to "just like Ranger" as I was going to get.
For a dog not yet 6 months old she is incredibly well
mannered and intelligent. Like Ranger, she is calm in
nature and yet not shy or easily frightened. She is
not a barker or a chewer. She already follows all
commands without hesitation and keeps me constantly
in her sight. It's such a contrast to have Ranger and
Pord, on guard, waiting for a word from the masters,
and then have Prissy who is energetic to the point of
hyper, who, even now, cannot be trusted not to chew
things up and who barks at any sound or sight
unfamiliar to her or whenever she gets excited (don't
misunderstand, Prissy is a lovely, loving, sweet
girl, she just can't seem to ever unwind).

Pord will not grow up to *look* like Ranger. One ear
appears to definitely be going prick, one looks like
it is going to tip in the manner specified in the AKC
Standard. She has a beautiful, muscular body. Her
head and eyes(at least at this stage)look a little
too modern for my tastes. Yet, I think what makes her
so endearing and such a joy to have around is that
her personality and manner is so much like Ranger.

So, for me I guess, what makes the collie is the
*essence" of the dog, more than the *look* of the dog.

I hope to have some picture up in a week or so.
Puppies grow so fast. Pord looks bigger every morning.
