Welcome Dale!
The tiny eyes are disliked by quite a few of us
collie folks. My husband and I have spent a good bit
of time searching out collies that are like the ones
we remember from year's past. Our male, Ranger, is
about as close to perfect as we've found.
You can see Ranger and the girls, Prissy and Pordnor,
at our website listed below. I've got new pictures,
but have not had a chance to get them up on the web
yet.
On the eye topic... I was talking with a collie
breeder in Florida this week and she is getting fed
up with many of the show collie folks. She is hearing
the same line I've heard "you can't breed a
normal-eyed collie with a correct head." I find this
attitude scary, since I'm also hearing rumors of some
of the bigger name kennels producing numerous pups
with eye problems. There also seems to be a small
ground swell forming that wants to go back to a more
old-fashioned type collie, forgoing the tiny eyes and
the pointy muzzles and restoring the health and vigor
of the breed.
Maybe us old-fashioned collie fanciers won't be in
the minority forever!
