RE: Garlic and homeopathic medicine for dogs--
Garlic is considered an herbal remedy, not a homeopathic remedy. There is
a big difference. In homeopathy, remedies are microscopic (or smaller)
doses of oftentimes harmful substances, with the idea that such small
amounts will safely stimulate the body to react in opposite (kinda like an
immunization, although it isn't that). Garlic, on the other hand, works
because of active chemicals within the garlic that work directly on the
body. As a matter of fact, homeopathic remedies cannot be taken at the
same time as garlic, or they lose their potency.
Garlic is in the onion family, but is not the same as onion. As far as I
know, there is no toxicity for any species (except internal parasites and
insects--and then it is merely a repellent for most of those). Garlic also
acts as a powerful antibiotic in higher doses, again with no side effects
that I am aware of. Garlic is useful, not only for internal and external
parasites, and as an antibiotic, but it is also an immune system stimulant
(this is true for people as well as animals). The dogs are healthier and
less prone to illness.
