A friend of mine had an elderly Border Collie that got sarcoptic mange. She
got worse and worse and it was never diagnosed until she was so bad that
she had to be put to sleep. So you're right, Linda, even if skin scrapings
don't reveal the mite, it's worth treating so that it doesn't get that bad.
I understand that in a severe case it's a painful thing.
