Since I am new to the list, I have missed most of the conversation regarding
scavenging. We recently spent a few days in Baja where ferral dogs ( and
cats) are numerous. In fact very few people own pets, but there are animals
roaming the streets in packs. They survive by scavenging and since there are
so many of them, they obvious survive very well. Granted there is no trash
pick up so everyone throws all their garbage out onto the streets, hence the
food supply is plentiful. What stuck me is the number of "farm collie"
looking dogs there were. These animals were absolutely beautiful. My
husband is greatful we were only there three days(visiting a son who was
working there)-had the visit been three weeks, he knew I'd have tried to
adopt one as a pet and bring it home!
