I have been off line for quite some time. My computer got sick and then my new
computer crashed. Here I am again though and wanted to wish everyone a great
new year. Mine is starting out better than  I left 2001- I am adopting a collie (more
old fashioned type of Rough) who is a love- a year old, sable-merle with a superbly
calm disposition. A little lady who loves kids and critters of all size; is not a barker, obedient but needs a bit of training (sit, etc) and is housebroken. On our first visit she naturally herding
the kids and she stays a distance from them. She will gently use the "collie nose"
and she looks at me for direction. She is very willing to learn. I can't wait until next
Wednesday when I get her.  I am on cloud nine!!! She (pic does not do her justice, however)
can be seen at:

Wednesday can't come fast enough for me!!!

I guess that's when you have to find a breeder who no longer shows their dogs, like the Holmhaven ladies or someone who isn't interested in showing their stock in the breed ring, but does other things with them. In Germany the guarding breeds have to pass Shutzhunds test or herding test (GSD) before they are given breeding papers, they are very restrictive. So, if we don't want the resrictions, we have to look long and hard to find a breeder (s) that we like :)
