I opened a ticket this morning to see whether I could get this report, but I also wanted to check whether anyone has already received a report identifying students who entered no response in Section 3 of the ELA portion of the VTCAP test. If so, would you be willing to share the overall data?
Hi Derrick, Last fall we were looking into why an individual student's writing was not scored on the ELA, and subsequently learned that we could get a report listing all students from the district that did not receive a writing score from their respective grade level ELA assessments. What was most helpful about this report was that it also included the codes as to why the writing was not scored. We were surprised that the majority were not due to being blank, but rather just incomplete or "direct copy". You can actually see these codes listed in the grade level

The word "using" may be overly optimistic; we've been trying to use PowerHub for the last two years. Implementation has been difficult. Our district code changed, but we didn't find out until partway through so none of our families are using it yet. This turned out to be a blessing when the app malfunctioned earlier this year though. MBA plugins don't integrate and there are currently no plans for integration. Some PowerHub built-in features aren't working at full capacity or correctly yet. It's getting better slowly, but right now it feels like I'm paying to beta test a product. I
We pulled together a focus group made up of teachers, admins, counselors, etc. Looked at both and decided to go with ParentSquare. The group preferred the look and functionality of ParentSquare. We are currently onboarding and will fully launch for the 26-27 SY.

We're wondering the same thing at our school. There have been requests to have it follow the student somewhere in the SIS so that counselors, teachers, and guardians can see if students have submitted one or not, but haven't found a good way to do that yet. Not much chatter in PowerSchool forums regarding this topic either.
I have given up on PLPs being a productive tool for education. That said, the mandatory parts we have just incorporated into Google Classroom. Each class has a "Class of 20xx". and there is a PLP topic. Our guidance department just creates an assignment under the PLP category and assigns it to the students as needed. One of the assignments is this template <https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QUrOsERU2-vlxIA48AH9vqygCRqtrgCRhe_f3uaIbcQ/edit?usp=sharing> that they have kids fill out and submit. The process works well, and fits with the students workflow nicely.
At EHS the students all have a Google Site (our PLP committee created a template).

BHS also uses a Google Site platform. Sites in progress are shared with each student’s grade-level advisor and our PLP coordinator, and all links are tracked in a master spreadsheet organized by grade and advisor so progress can be monitored.
While it would be easy to require that PLP sites also be shared with parents/guardians, I like that we keep students in charge of their own progress and process, with some safe guards in place in case a student completely drops the ball.

South Burlington switched from Naviance to SCOIR justttt before PowerSchool acquired Naviance. After some initial adjustments to the sync, we have had very little to do with it from the IT Dept side of things.
Side question for others using SCOIR, how do you roster it from PowerSchool (or other SIS users)? At the time, Clever was recommended. Wondering if others have either been provided a plug-in from SCOIR if you have written a custom export, plug-in, etc.?
We are using SCOIR and roster through Clever. This has been overall pretty flawless and hands off once it's set up.

Wanted to share a quick heads-up from last week. We had a phishing attempt where an external actor used a legitimate Google account to share a document with our entire staff. Because it came through Google's own Drive notification infrastructure, it passed every email authentication check and landed cleanly in 197 inboxes.
We remediated quickly — deleted the messages org-wide, blocked the sender, reset passwords for affected users — but the experience highlighted something worth discussing: our default Google Workspace configuration allowed any Google account, from any organization, to deliver content directly to our staff via Drive share
We just had a similar incident, and I haven't found a good solution yet.

I haven't had any luck in finding a good solution, either. But I have been spending some time wondering if there is any part of the "receive external communications" function within the admin console that I could get creative with to address this issue as well. That seems to be the only section of place that I can think of that may have a creative answer to this problem.
I imagine any kind of trust rules or delivery restriction for staff would be...politically interesting...to deal with. I can't see it as being feasible for us.
We enforce 2FA and geoblocking. We run phishing tests twice a month for all employees. We make a point to be friendly with people, even when they fall for simulations or even real attacks - that way they aren't afraid to report things to us when it does happen. We also send out org-wide notifications when we are made aware of actual attacks going on.
What I have seen in the most recent Phishing emails is for the user to click a link that opens an app, and in the process gets the user to both log in, and accept permissions. Once the app has permissions, it can share, or send as much as it wants, and it won't matter if the end user has changed their password or has 2fa.

Our SU has been using Keeping as our ticketing platform for a while now, but we have been discussing making a change. With that, I wanted to reach out to see what others were using for their IT Ticketing systems.
Is anyone using a ticketing system that they love? What do you like most / least about those systems?

We haven't had, or really needed, a system until recently, when we had three things happen. 1. We think it's a good time to have some data on what we do, but we don't have a budget. 2. We need a fun way to stay on top of our Gemini, Gem, NotebookLM evolution and AI in general. 2. Claude Pro arrived and Sean M. just asked it for a ticket system... and we had a good draft.
I used https://www.freshworks.com/freshdesk/. It used to have a free version up to 10 users, but I could only find the paid versions. It works and I have been happy with it.

I've had many teachers reporting that students 'accidentally' got to the 'submit answers' screen. Teachers are reporting that students hit 'next' and it brought them to submit answers and students are unable to go back. Some students even report the computer 'glitching out' and ending up at the submit screen. This seems to be happening much more this year with the new 'session 3' of VTCAP ELA. In a specific case, a child got to the 'warning screen' with the yellow triangle and tried to hit the back arrow, and ended up at the submit screen. Many of

The person helping me from Pearson said that it is the state's decision on if a test is reopened and to which section/session.
All I know is, some students did click the arrow, but if there was no warning and the ready to submit button came up, they should not be penalized if the test would not allow them to go back.
I think it's important for teachers and other staff to give this feedback to the state. In the past Daniell Dupuis has been very helpful, in my experience, and has advocated for schools' needs with Pearson. A lot of this sounds like problems with the app.
Last year in May Danielle put out a survey and I shared the link with teachers and asked them to give feedback and many did. Be on the lookout for that, or if Danielle is still in charge of quality control, I would encourage folks to email her at [log in to unmask] and share specifics of

Good afternoon, We are aware of this issue and understand that it is unfortunately widespread. We are working with our vendor since this morning to address the issue. I can’t provide any further details at this time but wanted you all to know we are working and advocating for a better testing experience. Cognia is going to send out communications on the issue hopefully today or tomorrow the latest.
Our athletic director submitted an internal vetting request for a Pixellot camera and its related services (NFHS, NFHS + GoFan, etc.). The overall setup appears to tie into both the NFHS Network and PlayOn.
I am trying to get a sense of how others are handling the student data privacy piece.
We use TEC <https://tec-coop.org/> for DPAs, and I submitted requests for each component. TEC marked them pretty quickly as *vendor declined to sign the NDPA*.

We use Zendesk. They have some reasonably priced options for smaller schools. Our users seem to like it and it has been easy for the team to manage tickets. There is a decent setup to create a knowledge base and messages for users to be self sufficient if they want to be as well.
We use Freshdesk and a separate asset platform. It's fine-- does the job. We have the paid plan and have another department in it as well. They recently had a steep price increase which is making it less palatable.
We are currently evaluating IncidentIQ. It has an integrated asset system with some MDM integration/controls built in. I don't like the cost, but for us, it's almost a net even for an integrated ticket/asset environment (plus more)...
