Vita-Learn is thrilled to announce a new strategic partnership with GoTeacher, a comprehensive platform designed to help K-12 school districts maximize the impact of their educational technology investments. This collaboration will provide Vita-Learn members with valuable tools and preferred pricing to enhance their technology integration and management.
GoTeacher empowers schools and districts to effectively manage their instructional software with a suite of services that includes:
I wanted to piggyback on Jeff's email about GoTeacher. As you may know, I stepped down from my position with the Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) last June and am now a consultant, some of which is with CVSD. I offered a student data privacy workshop in the fall through the VSA and GoTeacher was the sponsor. At the time, Dean Celaj from GoTeacher offered a free trial to anyone attending the workshop. CVSD tried it out in winter/spring and purchased GoTeacher for next year. It's already helping the curriculum director, digital learning leaders, building administrators, and IT
The Vermont Fest Conference Committee has complete its initial round of reviews and acceptances for the fall conference. Workshops and proposals that have been accepted so far are published here: https://vita-learn.org/vermontfest/schedule/
The Call For Proposals has been re-opened. As we continue to receive proposals, we will begin to accept them on a rolling basis. If you are interested in presenting this year, please make sure you get your proposal in sooner rather than later to ensure we are able to review it and slot it into the agenda!
I wanted to quickly check in a see what you all might be doing for PTO or other booster organizations and linking to their websites. Right now, we have a Winooski PTO webpage with minimal information. They want to manage their own site and have us link to them, which I am not necessarily opposed to, as long as there is a disclaimer that the school district doesn't run or manage the linked website. What are you all doing? Do you worry that if they get breached that you'd be liable for routing to them at all?
I need a recommendation on one of those companies that does the "deep dive" at retrieving data from a hard drive disk. I've got one really inoperable, but user wants to explore the options on getting data off of the disk. I'm talking about the companies that you send it out to and the take apart the drive and fit the disk in their infrastructure to do the retrieval.
Have you called Ormsby's Computer Services in Berlin?

Sorry Peter, I've never had any direct experience with that level of data recovery. If there's even the slightest chance of a software recovery, I use a product called EaseUS Data Recovery that has saved a lot of lost data. I get that's not what you're asking for though.

The built-in "Select-to-Speak" accessibility option seems to work well, but the select to speak had to be the first thing I clicked on or it wanted to read the outside of the preview. The screencast I just printed your email to PDF and had it read that.

We need to track our Cosmetology student hours for licensing requirements. We currently use time tracking software that requires using a computer to clock in and out. Which leads to forgotten tracking and, in rare cases, questionable tracking. Our instructor is looking for something that might work faster and be more accurate - a biometric timeclock.

someone asked "So you "Allow user to trust the device"
Google support (tier 1) is telling me there is no way to "trust" a managed CB
Does anyone know of a way to do that?
This is not really an issue for our users in general, but def is for our team/department, when we sometimes might have to log on a dozen CBs in a day. and/or the same CB a dozen times in a day.
Yes you are correct, it was for the initial access code.

Suzanne - When you put in the phone number was that so they could get the access code? I am guessing there is no way to get around that original access code.

We would put the phone number in temporarily so that we could generate backup codes, then take the phone number back out once it was set up. For people without a phone (we only had 1), I used my number then removed it. We tried using the school's number/landline, but it didn't work for us. Might have been user error, and it actually can be done, but I went with the past of least resistance. Good luck!
Been a long time since we enforced 2fa. Can you still do it with a landline like the school's phone number? Might be problematic if there is an automated system that it can't get by but it might be an option. Maybe set up a test account and see if this works.

Sorry to go back to this but we just ran into an issue. For those using backup codes because people didn't want to use their phones, how did you get past the initial setup where Google is requiring a phone number?

Just an update for those who use Hapara Teacher Dashboard. Hapara support identified the issue and it has been corrected in their latest *beta build *for the Hapara Highlights extension. You may need to reach out to support to get your district on the beta track if you need the fix ASAP.
Hi Richard - We are currently switching from SchoolMessenger to ParentSquare/SmartSites. So far it has been a really good process with great help from the company. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

We are in the same spot right now. ParentSquare looks like it could replace three of our current tools: Remind, SchoolMessenger, and Smore, all in one.
Derrick, where did you end up landing on this? And if anyone else has insight (especially those who transitioned from Remind), I would really appreciate hearing about your experience.
That's good to hear. Now if we can just get it to send data to PowerSchool.

To close the loop on this, I heard back from the UVM SWIS team, and the SWIS is working on rolling out 2-factor for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. Headway.
