Waits River Valley School (K-8) allows ONLY Gagglenet email. Our
Librarian/ Talent Development teacher gets any "offensive" (In the Eye
of the Gagglenet Beholder + any words we add) mail routed to her.
Students are told that the school gets copies of all email.

No other email (Yahoo etc.) is allowed in school, no chat of any kind
is allowed.

I will ask that the written policy be forwarded to you.

We have had minimal problems, a little "normal=expected" stupidness.
This has been mostly "forwarded from my cousin porno site pointer" stuff.

We have had one instance of an off-school-grounds student-attacking-student
Web site.  We understood our lack of legal standing in this, and asked the
parents to resolve things, which they did.

The other student electronic communications we use is some QuickTopic
discussion groups created by and monitored by staff for projects students
are working on.

All of these are free, which fits our budget exactly.

There are certainly more complex and full-featured possibilities for a little
money. These days you can get a large web site and 256 email addresses
for less than $10 a month. MAYBE some of them have management
capabilities that would work for students.
