We've been using Adelphia in conjunction to a T1 for our SU since the beginning of the school year.  So far so good w/ the service.  One item you will need to consider is that a cable connection will more than likely have a dynamic (vs. static) address associated with.  You will need to provision for this if you plan on hosting web or email servers, as they will need a fixed (and registered DNS entry).  I believe that there are software solutions (No-IP???) that can be used as a work around, however we chose to take advantage of the static block that was assigned our T1.

I would like to add a word of caution regarding the free cable internet
connection from adelphia for schools

When we had one installed in a local learning center, the adelphia rep
explained that their certificate of public good and state approved rate
agreement which applies to that free service is for their cable modem to
connected to a single computer

If you have more than one computer using it, that should be your own
business.

If any one has specific different information from adelphia, I would
like to know

If any of you are in the Adelphia coverage area remember that they are
chartered to offer a basic rate service to any municipality, library
and school for free. I am curious if any other cable providers have any
covenants on their service? We have a very small network in the Gilbert
Hart Library in Wallingford of 5 computers and a wireless node, it
doesn't get any heavy use. The speed is admirable at about 2.4Mbits and
it has only gone down requiring a modem reset twice in nearly a year. I
would assume it would be a robust and reliable option. I know Nancy
Westlund at Flood Brook School is looking at it now. It could save them
a bundle and may well be faster than the pricey T they have now. I'll
report anything I find out as it progresses.
