Many services are activated by a superserver i.e. SWAT (Samba Web
Administration Tool), telnet, ftp, etc. Lots of documentations refer to
inetd. Many distributions have replaced this with Xinetd. All of the
config files for Xinetd are usually found in /etc/xinetd.d. If you can't
find a reference on your system to inetd, you are probably running
Xinetd.
