If you want to capture audio with the camera, that is use it for
interviews , you really need to get a mike. With some cameras, this
requires an additional adapter. If you don't, the interviewer really has
to get in the subject's face to get a loud enough sound input. Another
purchase should be an extra battery or two. Some cameras have a separate
charger, and some charge the battery only when it's in the camera. You
might want to look into a separate charger. I bought one for my car so I
can charge as I drive on extended trips when I want to use the camera but
live out of a tent during the journey. A filter set might be helpful and
as many extra 60 minute tapes as you can afford. You'll use a tape per
group or more. Otherwise, the footage you'll want to save will get taped
over. Keep a tape or two to export the iMovies for archiving. A tripod
will help if you want to do step animation(claymation) . These don't need
to be expensive. You'll and a good carry case. Many come wtih that.
The "Black Belt" videographer series VHS tapes one and two are excellent
tutorials for basic and advanced camera techniques.
