Your question made me curious and so I decided to do the research:
8/95 Purchased FirstClass server and 50 users for $615. No internet
support back then.
8/97 Took advantage of a trade-up promotion for server (now with internet
services) $300 and each user license was $3 - we were consolidating to one
SU server so we had a quantity of 200 users to trade up.
4/98 purchased an additional 250 user licenses to bring on board remaining
schools and SU office. $2,475
6/2000 Upgraded server and user licenses (460) and added 3 years
maintenance and support. Server $300, User licenses $5.10 ($2,671)
6/2001 SVTC (Southeastern Vermont Tech Consortium) purchased 7 server
licenses @ $107.03 each and 750 user licenses @ $14.84 each with 1 year
maintenance and support for a regional project. Each participating SU
received one server and 60 user license.
Costs are user number related. Maint and Support renewal quotes (4/02) on
the last transaction were in the range of $17 -$42 for 1 or 3 year server
renewal and $3.60 - $9 for 1 or 3 year per user renewal.
I guess the cost is about $4 per year per user for the 300+ users range...
