Dear Susan,

I know of one awesome stable isotope textbook. It is
called "Principles of Stable Isotope Geochemistry". It is
designed as a 13 chapter, 13 week course, covering the
basics and including early classic references. The price
has gone down considerabiy from when it was first
published, in part because I complained to the editor. I
can send you the first couple of chapters to check out if
you like. The table of contents is at

http://epswww.unm.edu/facstaff/zsharp/contents.pdf

Best wishes,

Zach
