Job Title: Operator of CF-IRMS
The Worsfold Water Quality Centre at Trent University, Peterborough,
Ontario, Canada, is a multidisciplinary analytical facility that utilizes
state-of-the-art instrumentation. The focus of the Centre is the
determination of trace quantities of inorganic and organic substances found
in the environment. The Centre operates, among other mass spectrometers, two
CF-IRMS and associated preparation systems (2 Elemental Analysers and a
MultiFlow), and analyzes H, O, C, N and S isotopes in soil, sediment, water,
and biological samples.
Duties: The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day
operation of two GV Instrument Isoprime CF-IRMS's and associated prep
systems, perform routine maintenance of the instruments, develop new
methods, ensure data quality, and train users. Opportunities exist to
conduct researches either in collaboration with members of the Centre or
independently.
Qualifications: The successful candidate should have an M. Sc. (Ph. D.
preferred) in Environmental or Earth Science, Chemistry, Biology, with at
least 3 years hands-on experience in CF-IRMS and associated prep systems (EA
and MultiFlow). The candidate should have strong instrument skills and be
able to perform initial trouble shootings of the instruments. Expertise in
stable isotope geochemistry would be an asset.
The position can be filled as either a research technician or a postdoctoral
associate. Salary will be in commensurate with qualification and experience.
