Dear Selda,
You won't be able to separate the normal alkanes from the branched/cyclic
alkanes using silica column chromatography. However, there are two standard
methods for doing this separation, one is urea adduction and the second
utilises a molecular sieve. We have used both methods in our laboratory and
I'd be happy to dig up the relevant protocols should you require them.
Cheers,
Ian
