Dear Isogeochemists,
I am finishing my PhD thesis entitled « cold seeps
and their impact on the benthic ecosystem ». My PhD
research focuses on studying authigenic minerals
(carbonates, barite, pyrite and gypsum) precipitated
in cold seep environments, particularly in Eastern
Mediterranean Sea (Mediterranean Ridge and Nil
deep-sea fan) and in Gulf of Guinea (Zaire deep-sea
fan). On carbonate crusts and concretions, I carried
out petrographic (SEM, optical microscope),
mineralogical (XRD, total carbonate content) and
geochemical (oxygen and carbon isotope composition)
analyses. In some carbonate samples, I also studied
the composition of archaeal and bacterial biomarkers
and measured the ?13C value of these compounds.
My PhD studies make me desire of better understanding
microbial mechanisms occurring in marine sediments. I
am actively looking for a Postdoctoral position with
emphasis on the influence of microorganisms in major
element cycling. As far as possible, I want to take
advantage of this Postdoctoral position to extend my
research in the implication of microbes on mineral
formation.
I would be very pleased to send you further
information on my experience if needed.
Thank you in advance for you help.
Swanne Gontharet
