Dear Hector,
Foam with new oil is a common occurrence, it is due to moisture and air in the oil (or new pump) out gassing. This is also common if you are pumping a lot of water. In the short term it isn't a problem but over time water vapour can effect the veins in some pumps (especially the older Edwards models) Run your pump on ballast for a while (till it clears) and it will remain clear.
Cheers,
Carolyn Chenery

Subject: [ISOGEOCHEM] Foam in rotary pump oil

Dear all

I have changed 3 rotary pumps in my MS by 3 brand new Edwards RV5 filled
with Edwards Ultra grade 19 pump oil. Although the vacuum is fine, the oil
presents bubbles, giving it a "foammy aspect". These bubbles disappear when
the pump is turned off. Does anybody know if this is a normal behaviour, or
if something is wrong?
Operating the gass ballast produced no changes.

Thank you in advance,

Héctor O. Panarello
