Postdoctoral Reseach position in geochemistry of Greenhouse Gas Storage
Marie Curie Research Training Network, EU-GRASP
Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of Russian
Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia invites applications for a two-year
postdoctoral Research position which is part of a European Union Marie
Curie Research Training Network, EU-GRASP (Greenhouse-gas Removal
Apprenticeship and Student Program). The main objective of GRASP is to
form a group of young researchers to become specialists of the
greenhouse gas storage question. The objective of the post-doc position
will be to acquire a better understanding of CO_2 sequestration in basic
and ultrabasic rocks in presence of SO_2 through the experimental study
of SO_2 -CO_2 -H_2 O interactions with such rocks.
More precisely, the candidate will study the reaction of
carbonate-sulphate formation from silicates at different pressures
(20-500 bars), temperatures, fO_2 , times using a large range of
techniques: electron microscopy for mineralogical study, conventional
stable isotopes (mainly C and O) as well as thermodynamic and kinetic
modelling. This work should provide a better understanding for the
mechanisms of such reactions at the mineral scale, as well as
carbonatation rates in various conditions. High pressure experiments
will be carried out at the Vernadsky Institute; whereas stable isotopes
as well as mineralogical studies will be performed at IPGP, Paris.
The applicant should have a PhD in Earth Sciences, chemistry or material
sciences. A relevant experience in the fields of either stable isotope
measurements or high pressure techniques or mineralogy/petrology is
preferred.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a statement describing
research work and technical experience, a list of publications and the
name and address of 3 possible references. Electronic applications
should be sent to: [log in to unmask] by the 1 December, 2007. Expected
starting date for the position: 1 January 2008.
