Dear Colleagues,
Due to technical difficulties, the deadline for applications for the NIC
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ice Core Research has been extended to May 30, 2008.
I apologize to those that have received this announcement more than once.
Many Thanks,
Nancy

The National Isotope Centre (NIC), a division of GNS Science, is the
premier source of applied isotope science capability in New Zealand. Its
research and commercial activities are supported by a sophisticated
technical infrastructure, including particle accelerators for accelerator
mass spectrometery, stable isotope mass spectrometers, a tritium analysis
facility, chemical laboratories, and a new ice core research facility.
You, as an ambitious and bright postdoctoral research fellow, will be part
of the NZ Ice Core Research Programme. The position is for a 3 year fixed
period, to work on an agreed project covering aspects of climate change
utilising ice core records. It is a collaborative and interdisciplinary
effort which utilises ice cores from coastal Antarctica to investigate
climate drivers of the Southern Hemisphere. Our research, under the
auspices of the Joint Antarctic Research Institute (JARI) between GNS
Science and Victoria University of Wellington, contributes to a range of
international consortia on Ice Coring Sciences (e.g. IPICS, ITASE, AGCS)
and aims to provide high resolution climate records for the prediction of
future climate change. Part of the selection process will include an
assessment of the proposed research plan.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD and skills and experience in some or
all of these fields:
Ice core climatology
A track record of publications in the field of ice core research,
preferably climate change
Excellent organisational skills and ability to work and collaborate within
multidisciplinary research teams
Preference will be given to candidates with practical knowledge and
experience with ice core laboratory equipment and procedures
Ability to supervise technicians and students to complete laboratory
tasks.
Applications close: Friday 30 May 2008.
Vacancy Number 08/12
