The 11th Canadian Continuous-Flow Isotope Ratio
Mass Spectrometry (CF-IRMS) Workshop
August 14-17, 2005
Description and Scope
The original mandate of the (CF-IRMS) workshop was to assemble the Canadian
stable isotope community in a forum where emerging applications and technical
developments in CF-IRMS could be discussed. Over the past 10 years the CF-IRMS
workshop has grown into an international forum that groups both experienced and
novice CF-IRMS users. It is likely that the 11th Canadian CF-IRMS will be well
attended, particularly due to the fact that the conference schedule has been
changed from a yearly workshop to a biennial event. Conference participation
is limited to 100 people.
The conference is organized in the following way:
Sunday August 14: Introductory workshops intended for novice users. The
workshops include introduction to stable isotopes, and detailed information on
the theory and use of various peripheral continuous flow equipment as requested
by the attendees. In the evening an icebreaker will be held at the Grad Club,
which is very close to the conference venue.
Monday August 15: Manufacturers Forum. During this forum the manufacturers
present new developments in CF-IRMS technology, and often provide solutions for
technical difficulties associated with the CF-IRMS equipment and software. The
evening events include a banquet at the Old Courthouse in downtown London.
Tuesday August 16: Applications. Dr. Zach Sharp has been invited to present a
summary of his research and the uses of CF-IRMS and laser technology.
Presentations on the application of CF-IRMS as applied to a wide variety of
research problems/programs are also being solicited. Tuesday afternoon will be
dedicated to student presentations.
Wednesday August 17: Equipment demonstrations, and tours of the Laboratory for
Stable Isotope Science (LSIS, Rm G54, Western Science Building).
New this year: A Student Prize!!!
This is the first announcement for the conference. I regret that the conference
website is still under construction, but registration information will be
available on-line in the near future. I’ll post the web address to ISOGEOCHEM
when this is available. The deadline for registration will be June 17, 2005.
For those wishing to give presentations, abstracts should be submitted by June
24, 2005. Again I must stress that due to the hiatus since the 10th CF-IRMS
workshop in Winnipeg in 2003, we will probably fill all spots this year! So
please reserve the conference dates and prepare to register early.
In addition, if you have any ideas and/or would like certain topics discussed
please contact me so I can organize this.
