Stable Isotope Laboratory Manager
GNS is New Zealand's largest geological science organisation and is a Crown
Research Institute established by the New Zealand Government. It provides
geological, geophysical and isotopic research and consultancy services to
government and industry within New Zealand and overseas.
We are seeking a suitably qualified person for the position of Stable Isotope
Laboratory Manager for our National Isotope Centre. The successful candidate
will be managing the daily operation and maintenance of the laboratory which
caters for a wide range of light-element isotope analyses for a broad user group
both within and outside the institute.
The laboratory is being re-organized to better suit future requirements of gas-,
water-, mineral-, bulk organic-, and component-specific isotope analyses. As
part of a new initiative to set up a National Ice-core Facility at GNS, a new
mass spectrometer for high-throughput, high-precision water-isotope analyses is
planned to be purchased and commissioned within the next 12 months. The
successful candidate will be expected to provide significant input into this
process. Besides previous experience in a laboratory management role, including
sample management, quality control, and day-to-day operation, the successful
candidate will have good engineering experience to cover all aspects of
equipment maintenance. The candidate will have a tertiary degree in science or
engineering.
