Hi everyone,

I hope all is well with you.

In this lab there is a Carlo Erba EA1106 elemental analyzer which is
presently unused because it is designed to accept only the very narrow 1 cm
diameter combustion tube. Our lab processes large numbers of samples for
d15N and d13C analysis so for this reason the very narrow combustion tube
is not practical.

However, I noticed that the diameter of the interior of the furnaces inside
the EA1106 are large enough such that a full sized 2 cm diameter combustion
tube will fit inside.

I'm thinking that if I replace the fittings on the top panel of the EA1106
with suitable fittings which enable a full sized autosampler to connect to
a full sized 2 cm diameter combustion tube, the EA1106 could then be made
into an improved capacity sample preparation unit for isotope analysis.

Do you know of a case in which this modification was successfully done? Do
you know of any fundamental reason why this modification of an EA1106 to
accept a full sized 2 cm diameter combustion tube will not work? If so
please let me know.

Thank you,

Myles Stocki
