The registration deadline for the NSF Workshop "Preservation of Lake
Sediment Cores and Associated Data: Benefits of Proper Curation" is
approaching. Please contact me ([log in to unmask]) by Monday, March 6 if
you would like to attend, or if you have questions about the workshop.

We would especially like to encourage participation by individuals
working at the scale of traditional paleolimnological studies, or at
institutions without large paleolimnological research programs or
well-equipped core analysis laboratories. The rationale for the
workshop includes the recognition that proper initial description,
documentation, and curation of lake sediment cores is an important issue
not only for groups working with hundreds of meters of drill core, but
also for researchers who take only a few cores, or a few dozen.

The original workshop announcement is below.

NSF WORKSHOP:

PRESERVATION OF LAKE SEDIMENT CORES AND ASSOCIATED DATA: BENEFITS OF
PROPER CURATION

To be held at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, March 23-24, 2006.

This workshop will convene researchers who use lake sediment cores to
study paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmental changes to discuss the value
of an NSF-funded core analysis and curation facility, and, if such a
facility is deemed necessary, its desirable characteristics and components.

The workshop report will be submitted to NSF in anticipation of an RFP
for a lacustrine core analysis and curation facility.

Partial travel support is available, most likely in the form of free
lodging and some meals. The deadline to register is March 6.

Please contact Amy Myrbo ([log in to unmask]) for registration or more
information, or see:
